What is Laser Hair Removal?
Laser hair removal is a cosmetic procedure that uses concentrated beams of light (laser) to target and remove unwanted hair. The laser emits light that is absorbed by the pigment (melanin) in the hair. This light energy is converted into heat, which damages the hair follicles and prevents or delays future hair growth.
The process works best on individuals with lighter skin and darker hair, as the laser targets the pigment (melanin) in the hair. However, advancements in technology have made it more effective for all skin and hair types.
Why is multiple sessions required?
Hair grows in different cycles, and the laser is most effective during the anagen phase of the hair growth. There are three main hair growth stages:

1. Anagen (Growth Phase)
2. Catagen (Transitional Phase)
3. Telogen (Resting Phase)
Since not all hairs in a treatment area is in the same phase at the same time, you need multiple treatments to catch hairs in the anagen phase, Typically, the treatments are spaced 4–6 weeks apart to capture new phases.
By the end of your treatment series, most of the hair follicles will have been treated in their active growth phase, leading to a significant reduction in hair growth.

Preparation
Preparing for laser hair removal is important to ensure the treatment is effective and safe.
Maximise Effectiveness: Shaving allows for better absorption of the laser energy in the follicle. Waxing/threading/ plucking will remove the follicle completely, we need the follicle intact for results.
Reduces Side Effects: Avoid sun exposure which can cause hyperpigmentation and certain skin products/medications which can make your skin more sensitive to the laser causing blisters and burns.
Prevent Infections: Keep skin clean and free from irritants. This is why avoiding products that might clog pores or irritate the skin is important before treatment.
Better Results: Proper preparation helps the laser target follicles more efficiently and can lead to seeing results faster.
Aftercare
Following aftercare for laser hair removal is crucial for safety and optimising results.
Prevent Skin Irritation: Aloe Vera helps soothe the skin and reduce redness/swelling/inflammation
Avoid Pigment Changes: Protecting your skin from the sun prevents skin discolouration (hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation) which can last up to 6 months.
Minimise Risk of Infection: Avoid tight clothing, itching the area, adding heat to the area, this reduces the risk of infection or ingrown hairs.
Maximise Results: Following the aftercare instructions will speed up the healing process and minimises regrowth.
